What’s Included When You Buy a Ragdoll Kitten From Us
When someone tells you a Ragdoll kitten costs $800, and someone else says $4,500, and someone else says $6,000 — the first question that should come to mind is: what am I actually getting for that price?
The honest answer varies wildly. Some breeders include everything. Some include almost nothing and hand you an unaltered kitten with no vet records and no support. And when you don’t know what “included” actually means, you can’t compare prices fairly.
So this post is exactly what it sounds like: a complete, itemized list of what you get when you buy a Ragdoll kitten from Kitten Around Ragdolls. No fine print. No hidden costs. No surprises.
The Basics: Every Kitten Goes Home With
Every Kitten Around Ragdolls kitten leaves us with the following, without exception:
1. A Complete Veterinary Exam
Between 8 and 10 weeks of age, every one of our kittens has a full wellness exam at Douglas Boulevard Veterinary Clinic in Roseville. This includes:
- Full physical exam
- Heart and lung auscultation
- Eye, ear, and mouth evaluation
- Weight and growth check
- Confirmation of overall health for go-home
If anything is found during that exam, we address it before your kitten goes home. Full stop.
2. Full Vaccination Series (Age-Appropriate)
Every kitten receives their first FVRCP vaccine at the 8-10 week wellness exam, and their second FVRCP booster at their 11-12 week spay/neuter appointment. This is the age-appropriate series before go-home.
Your new vet will continue with any additional boosters as recommended for your kitten’s ongoing life.
3. Spay or Neuter Surgery Completed Before Go-Home
Every kitten is already spayed or neutered before they come home to you. This is a big one:
- You don’t have to schedule the surgery yourself
- You don’t have to budget for it (typically $200-$500 elsewhere)
- You don’t have to manage recovery in an unfamiliar environment
- You don’t have to worry about accidental breeding if you eventually get another cat
We use early-age alteration, performed by our licensed veterinarians. Kittens recover quickly at 11-12 weeks — usually faster than they would as adults.
4. Microchipping (Registered to You)
Every kitten is microchipped before go-home using Nano chips (roughly half the size of traditional microchips) through nanochipid.com. The chip is registered to your name and contact information before you leave — not to us — so if anything ever happens, your kitten comes back to you.
5. Trupanion Pet Insurance — 30-Day Free Trial
Every kitten goes home eligible for a Trupanion 30-day free trial. This is important because pet insurance activated within the first 30 days of ownership means coverage begins immediately, before any condition can be considered “pre-existing.”
We provide the activation code and instructions. You must call to activate within 24 hours of homecoming — the trial is NOT automatic. But we walk you through the process, and it takes about five minutes on the phone.
6. Comprehensive Fecal Panel Testing
We now send comprehensive fecal panels to IDEXX for every litter before kittens go home — a 16-pathogen screen that includes parasites, bacteria, and viral pathogens. Your kitten arrives with documentation confirming they’ve been screened for the most important intestinal health issues. Read more about our comprehensive health testing protocol.
7. Written Adoption Contract With Health Guarantee
Every kitten goes home with a comprehensive, written adoption contract that includes:
- A genetic health guarantee
- A return-to-breeder clause (if you ever cannot keep your kitten, they come back to us — no matter how many years later)
- Clear terms around your rights and ours
- Documentation of everything that came with your kitten
The contract is real. It’s enforceable. It exists to protect both our kittens and our buyers.
8. Complete Health Records
You leave with a physical folder of everything: vet exam records, vaccination records, alteration surgery records, fecal panel results, microchip registration, insurance activation info, and copies of parent health testing (HCM, PKD, Wisdom Panel Optimal Selection).
Bring this folder to your first appointment with your new vet — they’ll have everything they need to start their care.
9. Go-Home Package With Familiar Food and Supplies
Every kitten leaves with:
- A supply of their current kibble (Wellness CORE Grain-Free Kitten)
- Familiar wet food and freeze-dried samples so their diet doesn’t change overnight
- A small blanket or toy that smells like our cattery — huge for reducing anxiety in the first days
- Detailed feeding and care instructions
- Access to our Owner’s Handbook (44 pages of everything you need)
10. Lifetime Breeder Support
This is the one that’s hardest to quantify but often the most valuable.
You have access to us for the life of your cat. Questions about food, behavior, health concerns, introducing them to another pet, dealing with a stubborn phase, or a mysterious symptom you can’t explain — you can reach out any time. Our families text us photos, call when they’re worried, and send us updates on their cats’ birthdays for years.
That’s not marketing. That’s how we operate.
What You’ll Also Get (But Not Physically)
Comprehensive Parent Health Testing
Every parent cat in our program has undergone the Wisdom Panel Optimal Selection feline genetic panel — over 50 conditions screened, plus blood type, genetic diversity, and coat traits. HCM and PKD screening. We share these results with you so you know your kitten’s genetic background.
Weeks of Socialization
By the time your kitten leaves us at 12+ weeks, they’ve spent months being handled, played with, introduced to household sounds, familiarized with normal household activity, and developed the confident temperament that Ragdolls are known for.
An Ethical Contract
You’re also getting the peace of mind that comes from working with a TICA-registered, transparent, ethical breeder. That’s not measurable in dollars, but it’s real.
The Pricing: What It Actually Costs
Our pet kittens are $4,500 flat. That’s every kitten, every color, every pattern, both sexes. No tiered pricing based on rarity.
The deposit is $1,000 non-refundable, which reserves your kitten and secures your place. The remaining $3,500 is due before your kitten comes home.
We accept Zelle (preferred) or cash only. No credit cards, no checks, no Venmo, no reversible payment methods.
What’s NOT Included
To be completely transparent, here’s what’s not part of the base price:
- Flight nanny fees for out-of-state buyers (typically $500-$900 depending on distance and route). This is a real cost we charge back separately because it varies significantly by destination.
- Ongoing insurance premiums (after the 30-day free trial, if you decide to continue with Trupanion or another provider)
- Litter box and other home supplies — we send a small supply of food and a comfort item, but you’ll need to have all the standard supplies ready in your home. (See our complete buyer’s guide for a room-by-room prep list.)
How This Compares to Cheap Ragdolls
The reason a “$1,200 Ragdoll” seems appealing is because most buyers don’t ask what’s included. Compare item by item:
A cheap Ragdoll kitten typically arrives at 8 weeks (not 12+), unaltered, unmicrochipped, without health testing on parents, without comprehensive fecal screening, without a written health guarantee, without insurance eligibility, and without breeder support.
By the time you add up the missing pieces — spay/neuter ($200-$500), microchip ($50-$100), full vaccination series through a vet ($150-$300), and the value of health testing you never got — you’re often ahead financially with the well-priced kitten from an ethical breeder. And that doesn’t count the medical costs that show up later when health issues emerge that comprehensive testing would have caught.
Cheap is expensive. Every experienced pet owner learns this eventually. We want you to learn it before you buy, not after.
